The UK Government has set an ambitious emissions reduction target of 80% by 2050 from a 1990 baseline. To achieve this goal, SECR requires large and listed companies—around 12,000 in total—to disclose climate-related information in alignment with
TCFD. As a replacement for the previous Carbon Reduction Commitment (CRC) Energy Efficiency Scheme, SECR has broadened the scope of regulations to hold corporations more accountable for their energy consumption and associated emissions.
